Given that we are primarily a sport-fishing destination, most of our guests prefer to maximise their time on the water fishing. BUT, this doesn't need to be the case. Many of our regular clients enjoy their fishing, but also enjoy some of the other activities our lodge and beautiful area have to offer. Local Arts Centres

The Tiwi Islands, Melville and Bathurst, are abundant in arts and crafts, and the colourful culture of the Tiwi people. Tiwi art and culture is widely recognised for its unique aesthetics and its connection to ceremonial life. The Tiwi people produce a wide variety of unique art pieces including: weavings, prints, paintings, carvings, ceramics, jewellery, distinctive batik and silk-screened clothing, woven bangles, painted conch shells and unique Pukumani burial poles which are all available for purchase at the Tiwi Island's art centres, at local prices.

Taracumbie Falls

Feel like an afternoon dip in a genuine outback swimming hole? Picturesque Taracumbie Falls is a short distance from Melville Island Lodge and a great place to cool off after a few hours fishing. Why not combine a swim at Taracumbie with a visit to nearby Jilamara Arts Centre and make an afternoon out of it?

Goose Creek Safari

In addition to being a sensational fishing spot, Melville Island also represents a fantastic and authentic outback experience. This remote and remarkable area consists of 5,700 square kilometres of eucalypt, paperbark and monsoon vine forest, coastal wetlands, secluded waterfalls and deserted beaches. In addition, there are some 56 species of birds, 27 species of reptiles and 19 species of mammals thus far accounted for on the Island.
Your Melville Island Lodge guide will accompany you on your full day exploring the pristine upper-reaches of beautiful Goose Creek. This safari commences with a 30 minute boat ride from the Lodge to the mouth of Goose Creek. From there, you will follow this magnificent and serene waterway as it winds its way for 60kms from the saltwater of the Tmor Sea right through to the crystal clear freshwater of inland Melville Island. Along the way, Goose Creek provides some of the most beautiful scenery on the Island plus an abundance of animal and bird life that can include crocodiles, buffalo, wallabies, brolgas, jabiru, sea eagles, brahminy kites and so much more.

Relax and unwind at the Lodge

Sometimes it's nice to just relax for a few hours. Spend your morning fishing, come back to the lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon: Read a book, watch a movie (we have An extensive DVD library), enjoy a cold drink, some afternoon tea, or simply take a nap.

Our main deck with it's shaded waterfront location, sensational views and cooling sea breezes is a great spot to unwind, especially during the day when most other guests are out fishing or enjoying other activities.
